Consortium Featured in HHS Webinar on Older Women’s Sexuality

The Consortium commemorated Older Americans Month and National Women’s Health Week in May by participating in a webinar titled, “Understanding Sexuality in the Lives of Aging Women at Midlife and Beyond.”

The webinar was hosted by the  Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Region II Administration for Community Living, in collaboration with the Assistant Secretary for Health’s Offices of Population Affairs and Women’s Health. Region II office covers New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Between 150-200 participants attended to hear 20-minute talks on “The Biology of Aging for Women from Physiological and Emotional Perspectives,” presented by Nisha Rughwani, MD, Assistant Professor, Gerontologist, Ichan School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center; “Addressing HIV/AIDS and Other Sexual Health Risks Affecting Older Women,” by Stephen E. Karpiak, PhD, Associate Director for Research, ACRIA- Aids Community Research Initiative of America/Center on HIV and Aging; and “Overcoming Negative Perceptions and Promoting Health Sexuality for Aging Adults,” by Melanie Davis, PhD, CSE, CSES.  Dr. Davis’ talk was co-developed by Consortium Co-President Robin Goldberg-Glen, PhD, MSW.
