Build Your Consulting/Training Skills in Sexuality and Aging Issues in Long-Term Care

The Sexuality and Aging Consortium at Widener University and Kendal Outreach will host a two-day professional development event titled, “A Person-Centered Approach to Sexuality Issues in Long-Term Care: A Training of Trainers,” on January 21 and 22, 2011 at Kendal Continuing Care Retirement Community, Kennett Square, PA.

This event will prepare you to provide staff development and consultation in support of the sexual and intimacy needs and rights of older adults living in long-term-care facilities.  This affordable professional development event offers 6 CEs/Contact Hours per day for Nursing, AASECT and Social Work (additional $25 fee for SW CEs).  Registration is only $75 per day or $150 for both days.

Friday sessions will teach you how to help staff to understand and support the sexuality and intimacy needs and rights of older adults.

Introduction to Sexuality Issues in Long-Term-Care (Peggy Brick MEd, CSE)

Older Adults’ Rights to Intimacy and Sexual Expression (Robin Dessel, LSMW) — Learn from the Hebrew Home’s pioneering work on older adult sexuality developed over 15 years:

  • Sexual Expression Policy and video, “Freedom of Sexual Expression”
  • Process for assessing consent for people with cognitive disabilities
  • Discussion of “Older Adult Sexuality Diagnostic Guidelines: Intimacy or Abuse?”

Saturday’s sessions will teach you how to consult on the implementation of a person-centered approach to sexuality issues in long-term care.
